Festival September

As September comes to a close we wanted to reflect upon some busy and enjoyable events, tours and workshops undertaken this month.

We began the month with the Thames Festival, running several river cycle tours and our adventure with the printing Hive; ‘ Screen printing on the Thames’. This was a great success with over 70 buying and sampling our hive prints and unit. We also ran a green printing, solar plate printing workshop in glorious weather. Our normal tours also took place with new riders from near and far.

September never stops coming as the latest edition of Printmaking Today hit the newsagent shelves we were featured with an article on our printmaking activities.

Below are some images from these events:

Bound Collections

Helen Gibb (book artist, Brighton University) created this great pamphlet stitched booklet of her finds and prints from the workshop. We love the overprinting, layers and textured she has achieved.

See the article ‘Slow Time’, about artouride and the printmaking work Barbara & I are doing. Fantastic to be featured in such a established

print magazine.

Designs for Learning with IOE|NYU

Running a one day workshop for 14 educators from New York and The Institute of Education (London) was no easy ride.  We created a energetic day of creative activities aimed at the group to show them different ways of teaching and learning within the outdoor environment of London.

Our day consisted of all the activities close to the Thames side (south side):

1. automatic drawing and observational skills (4 ways of looking, memory, coordination & collaboration)

2. Cyanotype from found objects

3. Screen printing (paper stencil and exposed type screens)

4. Book binding (Blizzard booklet)

The students all produced tactile and rich books full of the experimental tasks.

Thanks to Myrrh Domingo, IOE, NYU for her coordination and commissioning us for the workshop.

I Scream Private View / Hive Launch

Our visit official outing was for ‘I Scream’ Factory private view (8.5.14) at the Anomalous Space in Angel. During the evening we printed 1930’s postcards of Manfredi Ice cream shop (Greater Manchester) and paper stencil cut 2 colour waffle style ice creams for the visitors. A great show full of eclectic ice cream inspired art works.  A successful first outing, apart from the rain on the way there.

Printing Hive

We are very close to launching our new addition to our tours and workshops with the Printing Hive. We have been playing with the idea of creating a mobile screen printing unit for the bikes  and finally got around to designing and making the unit. Our fantastic carpenter  Chris, spent a few days crafting away with birch ply and here we have our first Hive unit. The web page should be complete very soon and the booking page will be active soon for bookings. We will be offering a Bee’s Knees Workshop and a hire service. If you are interested please email us and we can get straight back to you with more info.

Back In December 2013 Giulio Mazzarini from cycle magazine Italy joined us on one of our rides to capture the essence of artouride.

Ok mid December not the best for showing off your tours but with good spirits and good company we all made the best of a grey day.

Thanks Giulio for the bloc article and photographs. Hope to see lots more Italians joining us on a tour in the future.
